Where is el tatio
I went to a similar field in Iceland but this one looks a lot bigger. And there were no flamingoes in Iceland! The geothermal field was very extensive and the flamingoes were so beautiful. I hope one day to see the geysers in Iceland. This looks like my kind of trip! The flamingos are just an added bonus! Hey Kevin! I hope you make it to Chile someday! The sounds and sights of the Atacama Desert and, in particular, El Tatio were amazing. Hi there. Not a silly question at all. For El Tatio, wearing layers is probably better, but I did wear my down coat first thing in the morning.
The altitude makes it chilly. If you have room in your suitcase, just let him bring the coat! Hopefully, it is one that squashes down to almost nothing! I hope you love it as much as I did! Did you take all these pictures? Hi Jamie, Yes, all the photos are taken by me.
Thank you for accrediting them properly. Much appreciated. Sincerely, Alison. One item I recall from my visit years ago was that our excellent guide from San Pedro insisted we get there at a certain early time. He claimed some of the geysers always started up at some specific time every day as the sun rose. I thought this was baloney and just an excuse to start the tour early for an early return.
Was amazed when when he took us to a spot where nothing at all was happening and to within 5 minutes of his prediction, the geysers started up! Hi David, How do they know the timing of the geysers? But they do… it is just an amazing sight! Thanks for sharing! Your email address will not be published. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Some bubbled consistently, but a few were more dramatic. Veronica pointed out which, and we waited silently until a huge spurt of water erupted high into the sky. I was concerned by the hoards of tourists at the entrance, but once inside the geyser site, groups chose different routes, meaning that no areas were too crowded.
Outside temperatures had started to heat up with the sunshine, but I was by no means warm yet! I bravely stripped to my bikini and hopped into the naturally hot pool. Heated by the volcanic rocks, it was a lovely experience, and the perfect way to finally get toasty after a rather chilly morning. We tucked into bread, cheese, freshly-cooked scrambled egg, hot coffee and plenty more… including my favourite South American breakfast spread — dulce de leche caramel!
We checked out a few more geysers before hopping on the minibus to start the journey back to San Pedro De Atacama. Little did we know, there would be several visual treats along the route. Volcanoes, mountains, colourful scrubland, mineral basins, lagoons and wildlife lined the road. There were even flamingos! My favourite view was the mirror-reflection lagoon, surrounded by yellow grass with a backdrop of mountains and volcanoes, and a collection of vicunas grazing similar to llamas. Our final stop was in Machuca — a small village home to one large family, 20 houses, and a cute little church.
Ending the day we will have the opportunity to take a reconfortante bath from thermal and mineral waters that El Tatio offers. We will undertake our return bordering the spectacular Andes mountain range admiring the great amount of animals and typical plants of the altiplano. Notes: - We recommend bringing warm clothing temperatures below zero , comfortable shoes, light clothing, bathing suit, towel, mineral water and sun factor.
